#Champs2018: Calabar, Edwin Allen defend titles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Hydel High and Calabar High copped the 4X400m relay open, both defending their titles as they brought the curtains down on the 108th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium a short while ago.
Hydel won the girls’ event going away in a personal best time of 3:33.71, ahead of Edwin Allen (3:37.86) and Holmwood Technical (3:38.11).
Calabar won the boys’ event with a new record in a time of in 3:05.60, ahead of Petersfield High (3:10.64) and Jamaica (3:10.93).
The Red Hills Road-based team, which entered the event miles ahead of Kingston College (KC), secured additional points for the win which saw them securing the title for a seventh consecutive year extending a lengthy title drought for KC dating back to 2009.
Meanwhile, Edwin Allen secured a fifth-consecutive hold and sixth overall after defending their title on the girls’ side of action.
