Code Red set for Caribbean Rumble
SOUND system Code Red will represent Jamaica at next Saturday’s Caribbean Rumble, which takes place at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St Johns, Antigua.
Led by Y Rush, Chris Dymond, DJ Lank and DJ Wurl Fresh, Code Red has its eyes set on taking home the coveted trophy and representing Jamaica at World Clash later this year.
“It’s a great feeling to know we (Code Red Sound) were selected to represent our island in such a huge event, because we have been working hard and ensuring that we been leaving great impressions around the world,” Chris Dymond told the Jamaica Observer.
This isn’t the first time that the 17-year-old sound has participated in a sound clash.
“We have only been in hard core clashes since 2009 when we entered World Clash in Montego Bay. Then we stepped back in the arena in 2017 at the Boom All Star Sound Clash where we made it to the semi-final round,” said Dymond. “In 2017 we were asked to represent in the Red Bull Clash Atlanta, Georgia. We also won a clash in Montego Bay last year.”
The other sound systems participating in Caribbean Rumble are King Animosity (US Virgin Islands), Three Sevens and Poison Dart (Antigua), OGS Genesis (Bermuda), Dubb Starr (Montserrat), and Taurus (Trinidad).
“The Caribbean Rumble is significant for many reasons, including being the biggest regional sound clash event to be held in the Caribbean that does not feature the traditional elite sounds. It is the only entry point for a Caribbean sound to qualify for the 20th anniversary staging of World Clash to be held in October this year,” said Garfield “Chin” Bourne, promoter of the series.
Bourne spoke about the objectives of Caribbean Rumble.
“It is really to reignite the competitiveness among regional selectors and sound systems, as well as to encourage other promoters to do likewise so the Caribbean can become just as active as what is being experienced in North America. And certainly, to give sound clash fans across the Caribbean a new event, which is available live via Pay- Per-View on www.irishandchin.com,” he said.
