Old stager Perfect Neighbour just gets home in Bonnie Blue Flag
Although getting on in age at eight, the proven Grade One campaigner Perfect Neighbour showed that he got a lot more left in his legs after a thrilling win in the $1.15 million Bonnie Blue Flag Trophy feature at Caymanas Park yesterday.
The dark bay gelding, under strong handling from jockey Omar Walker, produced his typical surging late run to get the better of Dontae (Dick Cardenas) and Hover Craft (Anthony Thomas) by half-length in a three-way tussle to the wire.
Perfect Neighbour was unable to go with the early pace and sat behind as Another Bullet (Dane Nelson) took the field around the clubhouse turn, chased by Hover Craft in the 1820-metre event.
Perfect Neighbour improved from fourth to third as Another Bullet and Hover Craft continued to really test each other from the six-furlong (1,200m) point to the half-mile (800m).
Turning for home, Perfect Neighbour was taken four wide with Hover Craft on his inside along with Another Bullet in centre track and Dontae creeping up against the inside rails.
Inside the final furlong, Perfect Neighbour got up in time for the win to push his lifetime stakes earnings close to $25 million.
Trained by Wayne DaCosta, Perfect Neighbour (Natural Selection – Desperatehousewife) ended with a time of 1:56.2 minutes.
