1. Two Antiguan football officials arrested in NMIA drug bust
The police have confirmed that two members of the management staff of the Antiguan national football team were arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) after 3.6 pounds of ganja was found in a checked luggage.
2. Gov’t denies claims of higher pay rates for ministers
The Government says all public sector employees including ministers of Government, the leader of the Opposition and Opposition MPs got the same five per cent increase on basic pay for 2018/2019 as all other public servants whose unions signed a wage agreement with the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
3. MOCA investigating PFC Telemarketing Services
The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) is advising members of the public that it has launched an investigation into the operations of Prisoners for Christ Telemarketing Services (PFC).
4. Sprinter Simone Facey withdraws from Commonwealth Games
Jamaican sprinter, Simone Facey has opted to withdraw from the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held the Gold Coast in Australia next week due to “uncomfortable” travel arrangements.
5. Man accused of having sex with minor found with gun
A Taurus 9mm pistol with two magazines and 26 rounds of ammunition was found in a premises occupied by man who police went in search for after he was accused of having sex with a person under 16 years old.
6. Vulnerable road users account for 50% of road users killed
The Road Safety Unit is urging motorists, as well as, other road users to look out for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users in the road environment.
7. Norman Grant requests urgent meeting with Shaw
President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JSA), Norman Grant, while expressing congratulations to newly appointed Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture & Fisheries, Audley Shaw sought to have an early meeting with the minister in order to discuss activities that can allow the sector to grow.
8. Colonel says ZOSOs continue to reap success
Officer in Charge of Operations, Jamaica Defence Force, Colonel Daniel Pryce, says the zones of special operations (ZOSO) that have been implemented in Mount Salem, St James; and Denham Town, Kingston, continue to reap success.
9. Zimbabwe cricket official banned 20 years for West Indies fix attempt
A former senior Zimbabwe cricket official has been suspended from the game for 20 years after he admitted trying to influence the result of the Test series with the West Indies last year.
10. Access to Information Unit launches booklet
The Access to Information Unit launched its youth information booklet titled, ‘Abby and Friends ATI Adventure’, yesterday, at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Library, Tom Redcam Drive, in Kingston.
