Prosecuting rivals
After some spritely exercise gallops in the mornings, a favourable impression was expected from Special Prosecutor when the chestnut filly raced for the first time on Wednesday March 21, 2018.
Bred, owned and trained by Carl Anderson, Special Prospector ( Silent Valor – Laws Of The Cat) lived up to expectation and romped home easily by over three lengths, in a maiden special weight event for native-bred three-year-olds going five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
With Bebeto Harvey in the saddle Special Prosecutor wasted no time, as the far-striding filly shot into the lead at the start of the race.
Running around the half mile (800m) turn, Special Prosecutor held a comfortable lead over Smarty Tradition (Javaniel Patterson), Miss In Kiss (Aaron Chatrie) and Key Witness (Dane Dawkins), and looked very strong from there.
Miss In Kiss hugged the inside rails and tried to deliver a challenge in deep stretch, but Special Prosecutor kept moving away from the field to register a three-and-a-half-length win.
Miss In Kiss held on well for second place with Key Witness getting third in the nine-horse field after the scratch of the well-backed Tradition.
Although the final time of 1:01.2 was pedestrian compared with the other three-year-olds prepping for the Classics, it was a notable run from a horse on debut with a lot more scope for improvement.
“ Special Prosecutor’s performance was really good for a first-time runner. This was what I was looking for from her and even though she ran a bit green, we have to see with her for that. But from what I can analyse from her and from this race is that down the road, in the future, I can see that she is going to be a nice horse in the end.
“The plan coming into the race was to execute well and take care of her during the race, that was all, and also to make sure she comes back sound, healthy and happy —and that was what I did. She has a lot more in her and a lot more to offer,” Harvey informed.
When asked about any chances of Special Prosecutor participating in the upcoming Classic races Harvey said that time will tell, as more assessments have to done before any decision can be taken.
“Well, the Classic is really a tough spot with some very tough contenders in there, but she will go from here and improve. She has a next race coming up shortly and from there we will mark her going right towards the Classic races. Just want to see improvement from her and we can judge her from there on,” Harvey said.
