Jamaican team in Suriname for Carifta Chess Champs
PARAMARIBO, Suriname — The Jamaican delegation of 10 juniors and head coach Mikhail Solomon are now in Paramaribo, Suriname for the 7th staging of the Carifta Chess Championships.
The team comprises defending U20 Carifta champion Shenel Gardener, defending Carifta U12 champion Johmoi Blake and defending U16 Carifta champion Adani Clake. National U12 champion Amy Stephenson and 2018 National U10 champion Zaina Oconnor will play in the U12 female sections.
On the boys side Jamaica will be represented by 2018 National U12 champion Darren McKennis and runner up Jaden Shaw. Joseph Prendergast, Joshua Smikle and John Stephenson will compete in the U12 Absolute section.
The competition will see 170 competitors from seven territories namely, Jamaica, Barbados, Bermuda, Aruba, TT, Curacao, and Suriname and will run from March 29 to April 3, 2018.
