Harbour View face Tivoli Gardens for Jackie Bell KO title
Defending champions Tivoli Gardens FC will seek to secure their sixth Jackie Bell Knockout title when they take on Harbour View FC tonight at 7:00 in the JN Bank Visa-sponsored competition at the Constant Spring field.
Coach Omar Edwards is hoping that Tivoli Gardens will be “clinical in front of goal” and “organised in the final third” to claim their first major trophy for the year.
On paper Tivoli Gardens had a better season than Harbour View, scoring 37 goals to the “Stars of the East’s” 28 goals, but with a goal difference of only a +3 advantage during the regular season of the Premier League.
In terms of head-to-head, both teams are evenly matched, with Harbour View winning 2-0 last February, after Tivoli Gardens won by the same scoreline last January.
Edwards has prided himself as a student of the game, able to read and articulate his opponents’ strategy and will stoutly defend their title.
For Ricardo Gardner, head coach of Harbour View FC, winning the title is more for the team and the community than for him. That is the line he is carrying anyway. And it’s all about attack, attack, and attack.
Should the “Stars of the East” win tonight, they will join Arnett Gardens as the winningest team in the Jackie Bell with seven trophies.
Winners will take home $400,000, with the runners-up receiving $250,000.
With both teams now out of the Premier League, it’s now do or die as regards silverware this season.
