Grace Jerk Fest for June 10
THIS year’s staging of the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival is scheduled for RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, on June 10. The festival is in its third year.
The announcement was made at a media launch at the Embassy of Jamaica in Washington DC last Thursday.
“June is National Caribbean-American Heritage Month and the festival was intentionally staged in the month of June specifically, to celebrate and highlight our Caribbean heritage,” said Eddy Edwards, CEO of Jamaican Jerk Festival USA, Inc, at the launch.
Festival coordinator Richard Lue provided a review on the growth of the festival from its inaugural staging on Pennsylvania Avenue to currently finding a home at RFK Stadium. He also announced that there’ll be extended use of the main stage to present cultural performers as well as the popular contemporary headliners.
Acts slated for the festival include Third World.
New Kingston, Xyclone, Sounds of Culture, Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers, Divine Divas, storyteller Joelle Wright and Ricky Platinum are also billed.
Hosts will be Ragashanti, veteran radio broadcaster Tony Carr, and Michael Campbell.
Chef Irie, DC’s Chef “Jumoke” Jackson and other celebrity chefs will be showing off their culinary skills.
