Business house domino tourney launched with promise of exciting action
The 2018 National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB)/Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Kingston & St Andrew Region Business House League is set to pose off this Friday with the promise of a a season filled with exciting action, according to the league’s organisers.
The tournament, which was launched at the National Housing Trust (NHT) car park last Friday evening, is divided into two divisions, with each division split into two zones. The knockout (KO) tournament set to begin on May 18.
This year will see a total of 20 teams which (10 in Division One and 10 in Division Two) will vie for two titles over two rounds in a home-and-away format over four months (April 20 to July 20). The top-eight teams at the end of the preliminaries will move on to the quarter-finals.
Four newcomers will participate — Kingstion and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC), Jamaica Custom Agency, General Accident Insurance and Kris An Charles, that is returning from a year break.
The winning team for the Division One tournament will walk away with $30,000, second place will collect $20,000, while the winners of Division Two will get $25,000, and second place $15,000.
Campari are the reigning Division One champions, Kingston Wharves are the KO champions, while Ministry of Finance (MOF) are Division Two Champions.
Teams that reach the maximum 160 points for a victory will get 11 points, 10 points for a win and five points for a draw.
Humbert Davis, first vice-president at NADB, thanked main sponsor Wray & Nephew Limited for its continued support of the tournament.
“A big thank you must be given to our main sponsors Wray & Nephew Limited for the commitment to the sport of domino. Without their help, this league would not have been possible, and for that I must say thank you. And also to the other sponsors as well for their input,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
Davis added that the aim of the competition is to “help our local companies foster a rejuvenating sense of camaraderie among employees and employers alike”.
Division One Teams: Zone A — Kingston Wharves, Urban Development Corporation (UDC), Wray & Nephew Limited, Jamaica Observer and Petrojam. Zone B — Campari, JUTC, MOF, National Commercial Bank and Seprod.
Division Two Teams: Zone A — Jamaica Customs Agency, General Accident Insurance, Sagicor Jamaica, Stewart’s Auto Parts and Kris An Charles. Zone B — KSAC, Digicel Jamaica, Port Authority of Jamaica, NHT and four-time Division One champion Gleaner.
