RAMBALLY JR, TOMLINSON, FRANCIS NOTCH FIRST SEASON WIN
Trainers Arnold Rambally Jr, Leroy Tomlinson and Everal Francis were able to celebrate their first win in 2018 at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Rambally Jr won with Thegreatexagerator in the first race, Tomlinson saddled Big Mistake in the third race and Francis was successful with Bag Gal Hillary in the 10th race.
After Rohan Cattleya (Javaniel Patterson) led from the start coming into the lane, Thegreatexagerator (Oneil Scott) came with a telling run in deep stretch and in the end had to hold off Miss Judy (Doushane Gordon) by half-length in the maiden condition race for native-bred four-year-old and upward fillies and mares over six furlongs (1,200m). Lady Budget (Gary Richards) was third. The race was timed in 1:17.4.
With Robert Halledeen in the saddle, Big Mistake was a comfortable six-length winner over the five-furlong (1,000m) straight course. Big Mistake sat behind the leader Laguna Point (Anthony Thomas) for the first part of the race before going by inside the last two furlongs (400m) for an easy win. Sundance (Linton Steadman) came through for second place ahead of Laguna Point. The time recorded was 1:01.3.
Bad Gal Hillary (Dick Cardenas) going five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m), was locked in a three-way battle along with D eal Maker (Odeen Edwards) and Storm Princess (Anthony Thomas) from the top of the lane but proved the strongest in the end and won by a length. Storm Princess was second and Deal Marker third in a time of 1:09.2.
FOURTEEN HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY
The claiming box was bubbling on Saturday last (April 14, 2018) as 14 horses were claimed on the 11-race 1000 Guineas Day programme at Caymanas Park. Arnold Rambally Jr claimed Ballon D’Or from Anthony Nunes for owner Junior Powell; Donovan Russell claimed Also Correct from Anthony Smith for owner Millicent Thomas; Steven Todd claimed Raging Prospect from Wayne DaCosta for himself and Edward Walker claimed No Money Friend from Kingsley Davis for owner David Reid from the second race. All horses from the second race were claimed for $250,000.

Little Big Horn was the lone claim in the fourth race as Ian Roberts claimed him from Neive Graham for himself for $550,000.
In the seventh race, Concur was claimed from Patrick Taylor by Roy Mathews for owner Monae Gordon for $300,000; Montegonian was claimed from Norman Smith for $350,000 by Michael Beecham for owner O’Shaun Connection; Minniffia was taken from Ray Phillips by Errol Waugh for owner Delroy Waugh for $350,000; Piano Man was claimed from Winchester McIntosh by O’Neil Markland for owner Kris Doc for $350,000 and Hologram Shadow was claimed from Johnny Wilmot for $350,000 by Errol Burke for owner Don Marshall.
GLITTER RUNNING GETS HOME BY DISQUALIFICATION
Glitter Running, trained by Patrick Lynch and ridden by Natalie Berger was able to release the maiden tag through the steward’s room on Saturday.
Glitter Running, came storming on the inside rails to finish second by a length and a half behind Miss Elaine (Phillip Parchment) with Swabybaby (Shane Ellis) and She’s Symbolic (Anthony Thomas) third and fourth, respectively, going six furlongs (1,200m) in 1:16.1.
Miss Elaine was then disqualified and placed fourth behind She’s Symbolic (now third) for causing interference to the latter shortly after the start of the race with Glitter Running promoted to first.
THREE-TIMER FOR TRAINER ANTHONY NUNES
Title-chasing trainer Anthony Nunes continued his rich form as he landed a three-timer to increase his lead in the championship race over defending champion Wayne DaCosta, who was winless on the 11-race programme on Saturday.
Nunes won the second race with Ballon D’Or (Linton Steadman), who romped home by 22 lengths going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) in 2:003.
His second win came in the fourth race when Dane Nelson drove A.P.I past rivals inside the final furlong (200m) in a five-furlong (1,000m) straight race. A.P.I won in a time of 1:00.1.
The cap came in the very next race when the 2016 Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes winner Sotomayor won by two and three-quarters lengths going a mile (1600m) in a time of 1:40.1.
Nunes started the day with 15 winners the same as DaCosta but with earnings of $13,021,475 to DaCosta’s $12,224,200. Nunes’ three winners earned a little over $1.2 million.
Two of Nunes’ three winners are owned solely by Stephan Narinesingh and this enabled him to take over leadership in the owner’s title race.
