Munga back in court today
MUNGA Honorebel is slated to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in the Corporate Area today. He was last there in February.
The dancehall artiste, who is being represented by Christopher Townsend, is charged for the murder of Cleveland Smith, who was shot and killed on February 12, 2017.
“Tomorrow (today) is set for a commital hearing to examine whether the evidence against him is in keeping with the Commital Act… It’ll be between myself, the clerk of court and the judge, and if the judge feels it’s a prima facie case, it then proceeds to the Home Circuit Court (Supreme Court in downtown Kingston); if not, then it gets thrown out. It’s a usual process,” Townsend told the Jamaica Observer yesterday.
According to police reports, Smith left his Moonlight Drive address in St Andrew on his green Rambo pedal cycle to attend a session. It is alleged that he was accosted by a group of men, one of whom was armed with a gun. Smith was shot after an altercation ensued between the men and himself. He was then rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Munga Honorebel (given name Damian Rhoden) was granted bail on June 23, 2017, in the sum of $500,000 after appearing at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in Half-Way-Tree.
Munga Honorebel, whose career spans nearly two decades, got his break in 2005 when he teamed up with producer Don Corleon. Among his tracks are In My Arms, Flippin Rhymes, and Bad From Me Born.
