After months at loggerheads with players, Patrick Roberts yesterday tendered his resignation as president of Arnett Gardens Football Club.

Roberts, who was thrown in the spotlight following complaints from players about a number of issues to include but not limited to a salary dispute, had promised to vacate the post at the end of the 2017/18 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season.

And, as promised, Roberts in a letter addressed to the Kingston & St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA), Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA), pointed out that he will be leaving the post effective May 9, 2018.

The letter came just days after the dethroned champions were beaten 2-1 (3-1 on aggregate) by Waterhouse FC in their two-leg semi-finals at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on Monday.

In a copy of the letter obtained by the Jamaica Observer, Roberts noted that his “tireless efforts have thankfully not gone unnoticed” as, on a daily basis since he made known his intention to resign, he has received “many emails, countless texts and social media messages and kudos for my part in improving the standards of the club”.

“During my time as president of this club, I have had the opportunity to work alongside some bright sporting minds both internally and externally,” Roberts stated.

“Finally, in this transitional period, I would like to wish the club, the new management team and players continued success in their future endeavours,” the letter continued.

Roberts is expected to be succeeded by Member of Parliament Mark Golding.
