Rusea’s High celebrate historic Penn Relays win
Rusea’s High and Hanover are still celebrating after their girls’ 4x100m team created history at last weekend’s 124th Penn Relays Carnival, while Rhodes Hall’s Rovane Williams and Cornwall College’s Owayne Owens both won individual events to highlight western –based school’s participation in the three-day meet in Philadelphia, USA.
The Rusea’s High team of Ishara Scarlett, Lashawn Haye, Terice Steen and Shantae Morgan won the inaugural running of the high school girls’ 4x100m international final, establishing a meet record 47.02 seconds, leading home five of the other seven Jamaican schools in the event.
Williams kept up his excellent season by winning the 400m hurdles, after missing the race last year, while Owens became the second Cornwall College jumper to win the triple jump in four years.
