ONLINE READERS COMMENT: Highway 2000 needs a working emergency number
Dear Editor,
On Friday May 4, 2018 I was travelling from Mandeville to Kingston on the PJ Patterson Highway.
Around 9:30 am and about a mile from the May Pen Toll Plaza, I noticed something ahead of me on the outside lane which I soon discovered was the rear bumper section that had apparently fallen off of a green vehicle and which was posing a serious hazard to oncoming traffic.
At the next highway signboard I noted the highway’s emergency number and called them to make a report. The response was a voice telling me they were not available to talk to me but I should leave a message.
However, I was then informed that their mailbox was full!
I called back in another five or so minutes and got the same responses.
If someone should be calling to report an actual incident, perhaps a really bad accident, what is the possibility of getting a timely response?
Can someone from Highway 2000 please address this alarming situation?
Yours sincerely,
Reid Robertson
