KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says it has made “significant progress” over the past 24 hours restoring power to customers who experienced outages due to the weather conditions which affected the island over the last few days.

“Heavy rains and flooding resulted in broken lines, washed out poles and other damage to the power delivery system,” said JPS in a release today.

The utility company noted that St Catherine, Kingston & St Andrew (North) and St Thomas have been the most impacted parishes.

The areas in St Catherine which are experiencing outages include: Commodore to Bullock and Bernard Lodge; while some customers in Golden Spring, Lawrence Tavern, Above Rocks and the surrounding areas in rural St Andrew are also without power supply.

The affected areas in St Thomas are: Mango Row, Cedar Valley and Arcadia.

JPS informed that customers are also experiencing outages in small pockets in other parishes at this time.

“JPS wishes to assure all customers that its teams are making every effort to restore power supply to the affected areas, but may be hampered in some instances by accessibility issues.

“The teams will, however, be working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible”.
