Let women decide
Dear Editor,
The abortion debate has once again come to the fore in our country. I personally don’t think that women should use abortions as a ‘contraceptive’. I believe people having sexual intercourse should be responsible and use some sort of contraceptive if they don’t want to have or cannot afford to maintain a child.
I think majority who are opposed to abortion do so on religious grounds telling all and sundry what the bible says. Some of these same Bible thumpers themselves commit abortion and even take their daughters to do the procedure. Some, when their sons impregnate young women, deny paternity, leaving the girls to fend for themselves with the burden of pregnancy deal with. The opponents of abortion have never taken these women into their homes or offer help or to adopt these unexpected children.
To say no abortion under any circumstances is, in itself, ungodly. What good God would allow a woman to be raped knowing the stigma and the haunting memories the victim would have for the rest of her life and want her to keep it?
There is something special about being a mother and so I can understand some women objecting to abortions, but I can’t understand the men. Some of these men just deposit sperm and run leaving the women to care for these children. I saw one young man on TV talking about the devil and god in his opposition to abortion. It’s a pity that one could not look into his background to see if he is a serial violator having many babymothers and are not married to any of these women or taking care of these children. It is fashionable just saying God this, and God that to give credence to one’s arguments.
If we are serious about this abortion thing then we should go further and hold men accountable. It should then be the law to castrate all those men who have multiple children and are not married to any of these women or take care of these children. These “talking heads” who oppose abortion should do more than talk. They should show us what they are doing to help women who chose not to abort children they could not adequately care for.
To have or not have an abortion should be the sole decision of the woman.
