Bickersteth maintain lead in Zone 1 of St James football
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Bickersteth FC maintained their lead in Zone One of the St James Football Association Guardian Group Division Two on Monday after beating winless Barnett Oval FC 2-1 at the UDC field.
Despite the win Bickersteth FC’s lead was cut to two points after third-placed King Gate came from behind to beat second-placed Belmount FC at Anchovy.
Bickersteth FC are on 10 points, King Gate on eight and Belmount FC on six, all after four games played.
Meanwhile, Ibero Star won for the first time, beating Westgreen FC at Westgreen to jump two places to third in Zone Two.
At UDC, Jimarli Gayle gave Bickersteth FC the lead in the 29th minute and they held it until the 55th minute when Curtis Morrison scored his second of the season to double their advantage.
Corey Matthews scored in the 66th minute for Barnett Oval, only the team’s second goal of the season.
King Gate recovered from going behind early to win their second game with goals from Herman Jarrett in the 10th minute to level the scores three minutes after Oraine Rutherford had given Belmount the lead.
Rushan Gray then scored the winner in the 39th minute.
Kevin Lewis scored twice for Ibero Star in their win, to take over the scoring lead with three goals.
He gave them the lead in the 16th minute before Marvin Campbell equalised in the 34th minute, then returned with the winner in the 48th minute.
