LOTTO CLASSIC — Marquesas given another chance to come good
The Lotto Classic for the Governor’s Cup, which most punters have come to know as the ‘Poor Man’s Derby’ is a wide-open race in which any number can play tomorrow.
Surprisingly thus far for this season, none of the three Classic race winners — Disability Charm (1000 Guineas), Commander Two (2000 Guineas) and Fayrouz (Jamaica Oaks) have entered this 10-furlong (2,000m) offering.
Even with the none participation of the three Classic winners, the 2018 Lotto Classic is still highly competitive.
The analysis of the race is submitted below by The Supreme Racing Guidein post-position order.
DRUMMER BOY – (3-b-c – Natural Selection – Preach Preacher) – Much more was expected from this bay colt, especially after he won two in a row going a mile earlier this year. Drummer Boy has flattened out considerably with his only possible chance here being the strong possibility he will stay the journey. Note the visor has been taken off for the blinkers.
OUTRAGEOUS TAJ – (3-b-g – Adore The Gold – She’s Outrageous) – If ever there is a horse improving at the right time for the right race it is Outrageous Taj. This is his fifth career start, meaning that Outrageous Taj is primed to make quick progress as his win on May 5 over six and a half furlongs showed. Outrageous Taj gives the impression he is going to easily get 10 furlongs. He has a live shot.
LIGHTNING MCQUEEN – (3-b-c – Adore The Gold – Herroyalhighness) – After two wins from two starts both over six furlongs, Lightning McQueen now tackles seasoned horses going an added four furlongs. Lightning McQueen has been doing well at exercise and, for sure, his trainer Philip Feanny has high hopes for his charge. Not impossible to win, but difficult.
INNOVATOR – (3-gr-c – Casual Trick – Pretty Hilly) – Well measured by most of his rivals.
ANNA LISA – (3-b-f – Adore The Gold – Anna) – Anna Lisa is going to find the going very rough.
WITHOUT EXCEPTION – 3-b-c – Natural Selection – Ahwhofah) – Started out so well but has since dropped off in form. Without Exception ran well to finished third behind Commander Two and Western Legend in the 2000 Guineas, in which he gave the impression that 10-furlongs is going to be too much for him. Without Exception has been doing very well in the mornings and is in with fair chance of success.
MY SISTER – (3-rn-f – Taqarub – Lady McBeth) – Has had problems with the tongue tie in the past, racing without that piece of equipment in the Oaks, where My Sister gave an abysmal performance. The tongue tie is on again, which should enhance My Sister’s chances of supplying a better run.
MY BEIRUT – (3-b-c- Adore The Gold – Jadore) – After a good third-place finish in the December 26, 2017 Jamaica Two Year Old Stakes, My Beirut has not performed. That trend is expected to continue in the Lotto Classic.
CONTRACTOR – (3-ch-g – Blue Pepsi Lodge – Princess Terri) – An interesting entry despite his last two runs in which he was completely out of touch with racing reality. Contractor, though, started his career with two wins to advertise that he has some talent within, but going 10-furlongs against these is a tough ask. Please note that the tongue tie is off.
MARQUESAS – (3-b-c – Coded Warning – Islamorada) – It is now or never for the reigning two-year-old champion. Marquesas comes to the races for the third time this year after finishing fifth in the Prince Consort (seven furlongs) and fourth in the one-mile 2000 Guineas. Both times, Marquesas was making up ground — coming on strong in the finish as if he was saying, “I need to go longer”. The 10-furlongs of the Lotto Classic is sure to please the run on efforts of Marquesas. This bay colt is given another chance to atone and come good. Please note that the visor is now on.
ROYAL AVIATOR – (3-b-g – Casual Trick – Royal Victress) – Although finishing ninth in the 2000 Guineas, Royal Aviator was just six and a half lengths behind the winner. Royal Aviator is one of those horses in the race who is difficult to assess and might just blossom going longer.
