Search on for missing Haiti mayor
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CMC) — The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) yesterday expressed concern over the disappearance of Mayor of the Commune of Estère Senèque Estimable, who was last seen walking towards the capital five days ago.
In a statement, the ministry said it is urging citizens to remain calm, especially the residents of Estere, a commune in the Gonaïves Arrondissement, in the Artibonite department of Haiti, who had ransacked public buildings “in reaction to this previously unexplained disappearance” of the mayor.
The ministry said that Estimable was last seen on May 23 walking in the direction of the capital.
“Since then, the family, relatives and sympathisers of the city councillor have no news” regarding the mayor, the ministry said, noting that the authorities have already launched an investigation into the matter. It said that a team from the MICT has also visited Estère.
“The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities invites all persons with information likely to help shed light on this issue, to inform local authorities as soon as possible.”
