She’s A Maneater reaffirms her class
The Lotto Sprint Trophy (five and a half furlongs – 1,100 metres) was the stage used by She’s A Maneater to once again assert herself as the top horse currently in training.
This after a rare defeat at the hoofs of Will In Charge on April 21 in the Legal Light Trophy.
She’s A Maneater won by three lengths, but the rest of the field down to the last placed horse were not all that far behind. Look at the placing and the distances behind starting with the three lengths that She’s A Maneater won by — 3 x ¾ x ¾ x head x neck x ¾ x neck x 1 ½ lengths — approximately six and a half lengths separating the entire field at the finish.
The Supreme Racing Guidelooks at the race in the order of finish.
FIRST – She’s A Maneater: She had to run well to show her development at the four-year-old stage of her career. The five and a half furlongs (1,100m) of the Lotto Sprint was not the ideal trip for the Horse of the Year, but she gave a commanding performance to reassert her dominance on the local track. She’s A Maneater has now won from five and a half furlongs to 12 furlongs, which is quite an achievement especially for a filly. Plus, she allowed weight to all, as Chace The Great, although set to carry 126 lbs (57.0 kgs) went with 121 lbs (55.0 kgs), as the apprentice on board Anthony Thomas claimed two kilogrammes. She’s A Maneater with Omar Walker in the irons watched as Mr Universe and Siempre Bueno set suffering splits before making her move a furlong and a half out, and when she did on the outside, the fat lady was singing at the top of her voice. She’s A Maneater’s winning burst was devastating, leaving all rivals in her wake. A brilliant return by She’s A Maneater after the defeat by Will In Charge on April 21.
SECOND — Sir Budget: Ran exceptionally well. Sir Budget was not expected to finish in the frame in this fast sprint given his recent underwhelming runs, but he was close throughout and held steadfast in the straight. Getting on in years at six, Sir Budget is still able to compete at the top level and should win his fair share of race further on in the season.
THIRD — Chace The Great: The reigning sprint champion Chace The Great was not disgraced in the Lotto Sprint. Chace The Great was not able to go with the hot early pace, but came on well in the straight, though the winner was far gone when he arrived a furlong out. Still continues to be as consistent as ever and his time will soon come.
FOURTH – Money Magnet: Lost all her chances when she was hampered at the start of the race and really and truly was never a factor this time around. Money Magnet did display some fighting qualities as she came on in the last furlong to just get a place on the board.
FIFTH – Siempre Bueno: As expected, he went straight to the front but was quickly challenged by Mr Universe as the two went all out in what was in effect a suicidal match race for the lead. It became clear that Siempre Bueno could not keep it up in the straight and even after holding his ground up to a furlong and a half out, when the others came a calling he had no answer.
SIXTH – Another Bullet: Stepping up in grade and while not far behind, in the end he could not deal effectively with the principals.
SEVENTH – Mr Universe: His job was to harass on the headlines, which he did effectively, but had nothing left in the stretch drive.
EIGHTH – Lottery Ticket: Not even her usual late run was present in this race.
NINTH – Perfect Neighbour: Raced at the back for all of the race and was never a winning factor.
