Making a favourable jig on debut
Quantum Dancer (Anthony Thomas), a late maturing filly made a more than favourable winning debut in a native-bred three-year-old maiden special weight Division I event — fillies only — at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
A field of 12 answered the call going 1,000 metres straight for a purse of $870,000 and Quantum Dancer, a gangly slooking bay filly by Sorrentino out of the Gilded Time mare Charity Dance and piloted by Anthony Thomas. Quantum Dancer completed 1,000 metres straight as the 4-5 favourite in a time of 1:01.2 behind splits of 23:0, and 46.1.
Cerasini, ridden by Shane Ellis made up good ground to be in contention late in event but finished second, 2 ¼ lengths behind. Miss Kim ridden by Bebeto Harvey was third and another 4 lengths adrift.
Quantum Dancer, well-drawn at barrier 9 for the five-straight event, left in good order but never got going until the halfway stage of the race. From then it was no stopping the half-sister to Berranca as she found extra to ward off the strong move made by 9/1 chance Cerasini, ridden by Shane Ellis.
Although racing for the first time, Quantum Dancer ran with a certain level of maturity that left owner/trainer Adin “Dreddie” Williams glowing.
“This is satisfaction for the quality of work done and detailed attention paid toward getting this filly to this stage to race successfully for the first time. She’s a nice filly, a very nice filly. I did my best to get her where she is at present, as my boss asked me to be patient and take my time and try with her.
“So, I took my time and I tried with her. She will go places later on as there is no rush, no push. With this performance I am pleased, very pleased,” Williams said then added: “As to the future? Only time will tell.”
