It was during his teenage years that deejay Sugar Bear decided that he wanted to pursue a career in music.

“My love for music and my admiration for Bounty Killer and his work were what led me to pursue my musical ambitions,” he told Jamaica Observer’s weekly Splash.

His latest single Red Bull, featuring singer Coralee, is making waves in the, Tri-state area. He is gearing up to start the promotion locally, having enlisted the services of promoter Stampede.

Sugar Bear shared the inspiration behind Red Bull.

“The inspiration came from a discussion with myself and Coralee. She said she has the good loving and any man she loves, is going to need a Red Bull’, he said jokingly.

Released earlier this month, Red Bull is produced by Willie Daniels for Tropical Blendz.

Sugar Bear is pleased with the response.

‘The response to the song has been great. People have been gravitating to the sound of the instrumental and the lyrics,’ he said.

Sugar Bear (given name Geoffrey Scott), is originally from Black River in St Elizabeth. He honed his craft after leaving Jamaica by performing on the New York dancehall scene. He also built a name for himself cutting dubs with the Young Hawk sound system.

“My musical journey has been great and a one that has experienced a lot of growth. Musically, I bring great performances, and I create beats and I also write songs,” said the Bronx-based artiste.

Sugar Bear has released songs including: Hot Girls Come Tru, Jamaica Me Born, La Isla Bonita featuring Tony Curtis, Pretty Pretty, and Sugar Cane featuring Rayvon.
