Dear Editor,

The populist movement has been spreading throughout this world. So I’m wondering when this movement will reach here.

Many Jamaicans argue that it was here already in the 70s through Michael Manley. That, however, was the Bernie Saunders experiment, which we all know never worked. The type of populism I’m talking about is conservative populism.

When will we have a politician who puts Jamaica above all else? When will we have a politician who is tough on trade, crime and corruption? When will we have a prime minister who is not in the pockets of powerful lobbyists? When will we have a prime minister who keeps his/her campaign promises, even if unpopular the mainstream? When will we have a prime minister who will act as though he/she truly believes Jamaica is not only Kingston, Montego Bay, Spanish Town, and Portmore?

Our prime ministers have been making bad deals for decades. It’s time for someone with business sense to come tear up some of those deals and treaties. When will we have a prime minister who’s not politically correct?

I will be rejoicing and happy to see the day the people of Jamaica choose a conservative populist leader to shake up the establishment. I know one day it will reach here, even if it takes decades.
