World U-20 Champs: Stacey-Ann Williams clocks season’s best to advance in 400m

TAMPERE, Finland — Quarter-miler Stacey-Ann Williams made it a perfect seven for Jamaica on today’s first day of the 16th IAAF World Under 20 Championships here in Tampere, Finland after she qualified for the second round of the women’s 400m.

Williams ran a season’s best 52.71 seconds, the third fastest of the first round, as she finished second in her preliminary heat to India’s Hima Das (52.25 seconds) to earn an automatic berth in Wednesday’s semi-finals.

Earlier in the morning session, six athletes had earned qualification to the next round of their respective events: long jumpers Wayne Pinnock and Shakwon Coke qualified for the men’s long jump finals; sprinters Michael Stephenson and Michael Bentley both qualified for the second round of the men’s 100m while 80m runners Shaquena Foote and Chrissani May also advanced past the first round of their event.
