Dr Olivene Burke (second right), director of University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Social Services, joins some of the graduates of the Social Welfare Training Centre, which saw 156 people, including 24 residents from August Town, African Gardens, Bedward Gardens, Goldsmith Villa, Hermitage, Mona Commons, Air Pipe Lane, Chambers Lane, and Stand Pipe, receiving certificates of achievement, for a group photo at their graduation exercise on Tuesday. UWI capacitated 24 residents from the eight communities in social work to assist with social intervention initiatives in their areas following the upsurge in homicides and other social issues in the communities that have triggered a need for additional hands to aid in resilience efforts.
