Police seize assault rifle, pistol in Westmoreland
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Two people were taken into police custody in Westmoreland this morning following the seizure of two firearms, a car and electronic devices suspected of being used in lottery scamming activities.
The police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported that the items were seized about 5:00 am, during an operation at Chinester in the parish.
CCU said that an M16 rifle with ten 5.56 cartridges and a Smith and Wesson pistol containing two cartridges were found.
A Toyota Avensis motor car was also seized.
Police say the names of the two people in custody have been withheld pending further investigations as they are to be questioned in the presence of their lawyers.
