Namibia, Jamaica sign Sport MoU
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Namibia to facilitate sport development in both countries.
Sport ministers of Jamaica and Nambia Olivia Grange and Erastus Uutoni, respectively, signed the agreement during a visit led by Prime Minister, Andrew Holness.
“The Jamaican Government have offered several scholarships to the people of Namibia tenable at the University of the West Indies, Mona and the University of Technology in specialisations ranging from Law, Sport Management to Business Administration,” said Holness during an all-day meeting with Namibian President Dr Hage Geingob.
Holness pointed out that education exchanges are one of the main areas in which “we have been able to prove the value of and importance of people to people connections and in strengthening relations between our two countries”.
The prime minister recalled what he considered a commendable performances and progress of the Namibian student athletes who prepared for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games by training at the University of Technology.
“This remains an important exchange programme to increase our people to people contacts and facilitate sport and culture exchanges between Jamaicans and Namibians, I am therefore heartened that today we will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of Sports,” said Holness.
The agreement was one of several, including visa-free entry for Jamaicans to Namibia for business or tourism, that was signed between the governments today.
