Spotlight on Hammersmith Prep students at awards, recognition ceremony
ROSE HALL, St James — The MAS Programme Hammersmith Prep School in Trelawny hosted its annual MAS Awards and Recognition Ceremony and ‘Princes and Princess’ Ball at the Black River Theatre, Iberostar Hotel in Rose Hall, St James, recently.
The MAS Programme is a Proprietary Student Success System developed in North America by a team of business executives and academic professionals.
The developers claim a unique approach to curriculum delivery through its resource-rich base, project-based activities, small group and individual focus, reading/speaking enhancement programmes, MAS leadership strategy, MAS IT, personalised learning plans, balance of work and play and the I am a MAS Reader programme.
The MAS Programme is woven together by principles from top international learning models and strategies including the Finland Curriculum, UK National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies, Montessori, Ontario and Jamaican Curricula.
It was a strong show of parental partnership as all parents dressed in their parent uniforms chaperoned their MAS prince and princesses. The formally attired students arrived at the hotel lobby in a stretch limousine to the red-carpet reception area with all the pageantry to celebrate their year of hard work.
During the ceremony, students aged two to 12 years old, received special recognition for outstanding performances in the national exams including GSAT, Grade Four Literacy and Numeracy exams and the Grade Three diagnostic tests. They also received a range of awards, including honour roll, leadership, communication and sportsmanship, as well as scholarships and special trophies from sponsors, which included Iberostar, Scotiabank, CHK Trends, Rapha Dialysis, Parts to Go and Friends of The MAS Programme.
“This is a very special event”, remarked Custos of Trelawny Paul Muschett, who, along with his wife Sheona, were in attendance at the glitzy ceremony.
Education Officer at the Ministry of Education Jacqueline Brown, who was the guest speaker, described it as “a truly unique experience”.
The principal, Michel Shah, pointed out that the annual event is “an important exercise in confidence building for students to be given the opportunity to experience events of this nature, where they are in the spotlight.”
“We take pride in celebrating the whole child and ensuring that they have fun too,” she stressed.
