Sasco banks on Hope River
TODAY, reggae lovers can begin pre-ordering the latest album by Agent Sasco.
The album, which becomes available on August 31, is the maiden project out of his newly built studio located at his St Andrew home.
Speaking to the Jamaica Observer following a strong performance at Reggae Sumfest last week Friday, Agent Sasco described the new project, which comes on the heels of Theory of Reggaetivity from 2016, as being his “most personal project ever”.
The project is titled Hope River and draws references from his formative years in the Kintyre community of rural St Andrew and the life-sustaining waters he fetched from that river which runs through the community.
“The album has 14 tracks but 13 songs. One of the tracks is an intro to a song. Winning Right Now is on this album; Mama Prayed is on the album and the rest are new things. This is an album that I recorded as a full project so it wasn’t a compilation thing…. Trust me, you are gonna want to hear this thing,” he noted.
For Hope River, Agent Sasco dug deep for an eclectic list of reggae producers in order to come up with the sound he felt brought that overall sound. This included his own Diamond Studios. He also enlisted the producing talents of Dale Virgo and Troy Baker who he said did a couple tracks, Flubbs, Sillywalks Discoteque out of Germany, Riff Raff, and Daseca. The list of collaborations is also equally impressive.
“Artiste-wise from Spragga, Stonebwoy, Kabaka Pyramid, Stephen Marley, Tessanne Chin, Tony Rebel and Queen Ifrica… Trus’ me, you need to hear this. The music is very fresh. You all have heard two of the songs from the album already. So it’s a nice mixture. I think we got a lovely balance of reggae and dancehall and some other things to make it interesting and versatile. I’m discussing things I’ve never discussed before, so it’s certainly my most personal project. I’m very excited about it and think it’s my best work to date,” he noted.
Hope River is his fourth studio album following Infiltration in 2005 and Gully Sit’n in 2007, which were both released by VP Records.
Theory of Reggaetivity which was released in March of 2016, reached number three on the Billboard Chart and debuted number two on the iTunes Reggae Chart.
