Teejay ready for Dream Live
Off the heels of a celebrated performance at Reggae Sumfest last week Friday, Montegonian singjay Teejay is ready to deliver at Dream Live, the first of several Dream Weekend events, on August 2.
“It’s gonna be my first time performing there, so I can’t really tell you the formula cause memba KFC nuh give out fi dem formula, but just know Dream Live a go be straight shellings,” he told the Jamaica Observer‘s weekly Splash.
The event unfolds at Seven Mile Beach on Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril, as well as the other nine events the Dream Entertainment team will stage over five days. Also gracing the stage that night are Ding Dong, Aidonia, Masicka, Konshens, Govana, Shenseea and Jah Cure.
Director of Dream Entertainment Kamal Bankay is predicting a great show.
“Dream Weekend is a collection of the coolest events in Jamaica,” Bankay told Splash. “This year Dream Live will be another huge party for us. We have quite a few local Negril artistes who will be there to open the show as well so it’ll be a great experience to kick off the week of activities. It’s going to be big, it’s going to be energetic and it’s going to be fun.”
Teejay (given name Timoy Jones) is currently riding the wave of his hit single Up Top which has amassed more than three million views on YouTube since the official video dropped in March. He calls himself the “up top boss” these days, but Teejay first emerged on the dancehall scene nine years ago with the track Starlight. His growth was on display at Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in the early morning on July 21 when he alongside Tommy Lee Sparta and Rygin King closed the first night of Reggae Sumfest in his home city.
“It’s been a long time coming, we sing from we heart and we put in the work so it was definitely a great performance,” he said. “Self-praise is no recommendation so from other people give you the praise you have to feel like a great man. Mi just give thanks seh the people dem react to it.”
