Traffic disruption along Mandela Highway Sunday — NWA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that on Sunday (July 29) traffic travelling westbound along the Mandela Highway between Tom Cringle Drive and the Six Miles overpass bridge will be redirected to facilitate ongoing road reconstruction works.
According to NWA Acting Manager, Communication and Customer Services, Ramona Lawson, traffic headed to Portmore and Spanish Town will remain in two lanes, but will be shifted to the right as it exits Spanish Town Road on to the Mandela Highway.
She explained that the existing median strip will be removed and the area paved to accommodate a section of the new driving lane. These works are not expected to affect the movement of traffic through the area, Lawson said in a release Friday.
The $8 billion Mandela Highway road reconstruction project includes the raising and widening of the roadway to a six-lane dual carriageway, bridge construction as well as drainage improvement works and is expected to be completed by year-end.
