Griffin Gully Bridge restricted to small vehicles only — NWA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency says a section of the Papine to Redlight main road in St Andrew, at Griffin Gully Bridge, will be restricted to use by small vehicles only.
NWA, in a release yesterday urged that heavy and haulage equipment should not attempt to use the structure.
Acting Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Ramona Lawson, said the restriction is to allow for the pouring and curing of concrete to complete works on the construction of the new box culvert.
She said the structure may be compromised if large vehicles are allowed to use it before the crucial curing period is complete.
NWA said the restrictions will be in place for 2 weeks.
The agency informed that the box culvert at Griffin Gully is being reconstructed with “a wider span so as to adequately accommodate the passage of large vehicles”.
The project, which is being funded through the Tourism Enhancement Fund at a cost of $16 million, is said to also be aimed at improving drainage in the area.
