Jamaican golfers for Caribbean Championships in Grand Cayman
This weekend, the Jamaican national team will travel to the Cayman Islands to participate in the 62nd renewal of the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships.
The tournament will take place at the North Sound Golf Club from July 31 to August 3 and will determine the regional Caribbean Champions.
Ricardo Perry, one of the rookies on the Hoerman Cup team, finished first in the National Trials and hopes to represent his country well. Junior golfer Justin Burrows will also be making his first appearance on the senior side. This after taking the boys’ 18 & Under title in the recently concluded Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships (CAJGC), which was held in Jamaica early in July.
Other members of the men’s team include seasoned players — William Knibbs, Jonathan Newnham, Mark Newnham, and Sean Morris.
The ladies team will also have two rookies on board in the form of junior golfers Eryn Blakeley and Emily Mayne. Kei Harris will provide experience on this youthful George Teale Trophy side. Blakeley, Harris, and Mayne competed for Jamaica on the CAJGC team which finished second to Puerto Rico by a mere two shots.
Team Manager Robert Chin is pleased with the team composition, and also optimistic that Jamaica will do well in the Championships.
