Marcel Gayle savours prospects on return to old club Waterhouse
Marcel Gayle has been appointed head coach of Waterhouse Football Club (FC), claims a press release from the club Friday.
Gayle, who coached at The Univsersity of the West Indies for the last five years and was the Red Stripe Premier League Coach of the Year in 2016, will make a return to Waterhouse where he served as assistant head coach and head coach of several youth teams, between 1997 and 2015.
Donovan White, president of Waterhouse FC, said Gayle is a true product of the community who exemplifies what is great about the people of Waterhouse and what can be achieved with hard work and dedication.
“His achievements as a coach at both the youth and senior levels, combined with his many qualifications and certification, make him one of the best-qualified coaches in Jamaica today, and we are happy to welcome him back to our team,” said White, who is also Jamaica’s director of tourism.
Gayle, who is also the assistant coach of St George’s College to Neville “Bertis” Bell, is the holder of a FIFA Advanced Level II Certificate and US Soccer National ‘D’ Licence.
“My coaching philosophy is to build an environment where players develop the confidence and ability to entertain perform with a high level of intensity, style, skill, awareness; and, competitiveness, and importantly, demonstrate a winning mentality and the desire to strive for excellence,” said Gayle.
Waterhouse flirted with relegation early last season which saw then Head Coach Glendon “Admiral” Bailey leaving the job, which paved the way for Donovan Duckie to step in and propel the club in a remarkable turnaround that took them to the RSPL final. They lost to Portmore United.
Gayle, who led UWI to seventh spot last season, said his objective for Waterhouse is to develop a disciplined, technically equipped, tactically aware, cohesive and competitive team of players.
