ONLINE READERS COMMENT: I like the PNP’s stridency against corruption, but…
Dear editor,
If I wasn’t born in Jamaica I’d think the Peoples National Party (PNP) was made up of a band of baptized Christians or a missing host of angels from Heaven. Their pronouncements seeking perfection or no less, is very astonishing. Luckily, I was born on this Rock, and I can list, if I could find enough paper, the archives of corrupt acts attributed to that particular party. Three examples: Run wid it Davis, PNP campaign fund, and Finsac. Where’s that report?
When seeking to tear down, how perfect do perennial hypocrites become. So since no one wants to say it I’ll do so because just maybe in 15, 20 or 25 years from today the PNP will returned to power and governance. My hope is that it never happens, but I know it will. At that time I hope they will retain and use all the vim, vigour, research skills, harping, walk outs etc. to go against corruption in their own party.
The scandal that has erupted at PetroJam is by no means a small thing, but I bet my house, car and all my possession that it did not begin when Dr Andrew Wheatley took up the portfolio. I’d go further to say now that since we are going the route of scapegoating to pontificate, in the future when names are called in like situations no question should be asked and anyone implicated should just walk.
Finally, I would like to see criminal sanctions be implemented for misconduct in political office across the board. Now that we’ve come this far as a country it won’t hurt to take another step and put that law in place so such misconduct will never recur.
