Junction Road to be opened on August 4 – 6 — NWA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) says that the section of the Junction Road in St Mary, which has been closed to facilitate ongoing road works, will be opened to vehicular traffic for three days this weekend (from Saturday, August 4 to Monday, August 6).
NWA Acting Manager, Communication and Customer Services, Ramona Lawson, in a release today, said that considering that the number of motorists who will be seeking to use the roadway to access northern parishes for the holiday weekend is likely to increase, the NWA took the decision to open the section on the three days.
She added that the area remains an active construction zone and motorists are expected to drive according to the current road conditions. The road section will be reclosed at 9:00 am Tuesday, August 7 and the existing six hour daily closure from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm will obtain.
Vehicular access was first restricted to a section of the Junction Road, between the community of Broadgate and the Westmoreland Bridge on Monday, July 30, in a bid to safely advance rock excavation activities along the corridor.
The six-hour daily closure is to remain in place for the next four months, Lawson said.
