Ministry partners with City and Guilds for engineering qualification
THE Ministry of Education has partnered with City and Guilds International to officially launch the City and Guilds Engineering qualification alongside Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) associate degree for sixth form students in the upcoming academic year.
The certification will provide students with the opportunity for dual certification during their two-year sixth form period.
The engineering course of study is a combination of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Associate Degree in Industrial Technology and the City and Guilds Engineering Level 3 Diploma (Electrical Pathway). Upon successful completion of the course, the students will have globally recognised and accepted qualifications that will allow them to pursue either further studies and/or employment.
The City and Guilds level three programme of study will give successful candidates access to the designation of engineering technician (with post-nominal letters, EngTech), via the United Kingdom Council of Engineering. The achievement of this certification will give Jamaican students the opportunity of global employment under the Dublin Accord.
“We’re also very pleased with the exam results for 2018 from the original participating schools which are York Castle High School, Jamaica College, Ardenne High School, Mona High School and St George’s College. Of course, Caribbean Maritime University, Brown’s Town Community College and the Institute of International Recognised Qualifications were also on board,” Marva Duncanson, Caribbean regional representative for City and Guilds said in a release issued by the Ministry of Education this week.
