1. Transport group to request a 100% fare increase today

The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) says a 100 per cent fare adjustment is at the top of their agenda when they meet with Transport Minister Robert Montague today. In a release late last night, the group said it will be lobbying for this adjustment despite remarks from the Government that there will be no fare increase at this time.

2. Montague to discuss fuel concerns with Finance Ministry

Minister of Transport Robert Montague is set to have discussions with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service to see what measures can be put in place to offset the impact of increased fuel prices.

 3. CCTV cameras, sprinklers proposed for city markets

The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) is planning to use closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) to boost security at city markets, following Monday’s fire that destroyed the Ray Ray Market. The corporation said the CCTV cameras would have real-time monitoring. At the same time, the city council plans to utilise sprinklers at its markets to better mitigate against fires.

 4. Airport security guard busted over Chanel Bleu

A security guard employed at the Sangster International Airport here was charged with unlawful possession of property on Sunday after he was found with a bottle of perfume that he could not account for. He is 21-year-old Jason Larmond of Wilson Valley district in Warsop, Trelawny.

5. American woman nabbed at airport with ganja

An American woman was arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act at the Sangster International Airport here on Tuesday, after she was found with 2.35 ounces of marijuana in her possession. She has been identified as 28-year-old Simone Brown of Chicago, Illinois.

6. Bartlett reviewing policy for use of Black River for safari tours

Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett says he is currently reviewing the policy governing the use of the Black River in St Elizabeth for safari tours. The ministry in a release today said the purpose of the review is “to determine whether the current moratorium allows operations at an optimal level on the river with respect to carrying capacity”.

 7. Stony Hill Health Centre temporarily closed for renovations

The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is advising the public that the Stony Hill Health Centre in St Andrew has been temporarily closed to facilitate a major expansion and renovation project.  In the interim, the authority said services have been relocated to the Golden Spring Health Centre in the parish.

8. PIOJ signs five-year country programme framework with IAEA

The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) on behalf of the Government today signed a five-year country programme framework with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to support cancer, heart treatment, food environmental safety and coffee production in Jamaica.

9. Education ministry working with BIAJ in preparation for pep

Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Dr Grace McLean, says the ministry has commenced work with the Book Industry Association of Jamaica (BIAJ) as part of preparations for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations in 2019.

10. Chandimal returns to Sri Lanka T20 squad after ban

Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal returned to their Twenty20 squad today after serving an international ban for breaching the spirit of the game. Chandimal was included in a 15-member squad for the one-off T20 that will round off South Africa’s tour of the island nation Tuesday in Colombo, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.
