Performance analysis for Saturday, August 11, 2018
RACE 1 — $350-300,000 CLAIMING (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1200METRES/6FURLONGS
Hologram Shadow at nine years looked extremely fit for his 78th appearance while seeking a 21st victory and had the confidence of the form players and was the shortest priced favourite on the day. In front early, he was pursued by Concur to the top of the stretch with a fit Prince Sammo close up third and gaining. Hologram Shadow idled a bit in front 300 metres out and had to turn back the challenge of Prince Sammo, who got alongside at the distance. With minimal additional persuasion, Hologram Shadow got to the line nearly three lengths clear confirming that despite his age, he still has a fair amount of ability left.
RACE 2 — $180,000 CLAIMING (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1300METRES/6 1/2FURLONGS
Luana went to the front early, never looked likely to be challenged, and won by over five lengths from Mr Cookie and King Nebarue — both of whom were disqualified for infringements in the backstretch.
RACE 3 — RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE V (FOUR-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS/NW2) 1700METRES/8 1/2FURONGS
Odds-on favourite Blood Song did his chances no favours by being very slow to leave the gates. Sprinter Great Manipulator led El Maestro until they were both overtaken by Boronia 700 metres out. Señor Kwanzi, running on, came to the front easily with 250 metres remaining and stayed on to get to the line one length ahead of the fast-closing Blood Song.
RACE 4 — RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE IV (4-YOS&UP/NW3) 1000 METRES/5FURONGS ROUND
From the off Zi Beast shot into a clear early lead and sprinted strongly throughout to ensure that all rivals had no hope of getting on terms. Silence, over four lengths in second, proved to be the best of others getting by the tired closest pursuers of Zi Beast in the stretch with Amar, who was slowly into stride, performing similarly to place just over a length back in third.
RACE 5-MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT (TWO-YEAR-OLDS) 1000METRES/5FURONGS ROUND
Colt Baltusrol, pitted against six fillies, did absolutely nothing wrong and from a clean break made all the running to score by five and a half lengths from highly-touted favourite Princess Annie, who ran promisingly and may not be up against anything as smart next time.
RACE 6-MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT (THREE-YEAR-OLDS) 800METRES/4FURONGS STRAIGHT
Breaking sharply Mrs Kim made all the running to arrive at the line two lengths clear of the lucky Smarty Tradition but was later disqualified. Under a right-hand whip 250 metres out, Mrs Kim drifted left and eventually into the path of well fancied debutant Young Boy Eddie causing him to alter his course 75 metres from the finish. Young Boy Eddie lost second place in the final stride to compound his misfortune but looks likely to perform this promise soon enough.
RACE 7-RESTRICTED STAKES (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1700METRES/8 1/2FURLONGS
Super Sparkle, looking physically superior to a great degree had the speed to dominate the early fractions and the stamina to stay the distance. Favourite My Elle Belle had to come off the bridle much earlier than her rider would have liked and had to go in serious chase 800 metres out. The challenge of My Elle Belle did come at the distance eventually but Super Sparkle ran well inside the last 200 to be a convincing enough two-length winner. Super Sparkle based on this run should be followed as the Parsard camp seems to be getting into full gear.
Race 8-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE 11 (THREE-YEAR-OLDS/NW2) 1820 METRES/9FURONGS+25YARDS
Storm was first into stride but gave way to Council Of Trent in the Clubhouse Turn with Ackee Pie a close third as they entered the backstretch. Storm went back into the lead 800 metres out and led comfortably into the home straight. Innovator got closer to the leaders and was able to stay, running on the far rails but could not produce the finishing speed to get to Storm and was left just over three lengths behind at the finish. Quite an encouraging run by Storm and the hope now is for him to develop and add another plus to the ranks of the three-year-old 2018 cohort.
Race 9 $550-500,000 CLAIMING (THREE-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1200METRES/6FURLONGS
Little Big Horn, best off at the weights, was ridden for the lead passing the 800-metre mark and was able to stay on his bridle to the top of the stretch in spite of unwelcomed attention from a hard-ridden Balazo. Quickening nicely 300 metres out, Little Big Horn left the rest, except Killer Bee, without a chance. Killer Bee challenged strongly inside the last 100 metres but Little Big Horn edged away late for a hard-fought one-length victory margin but had to survive an objection lodged by the runner-up before confirmation.
Race 10 MAIDEN CONDITION (THREE-YEAR-OLDS) 1400METRES/7FURLONGS
Bula coming off a good second place had to be checked when taking closer orders 700 metres out and was switched from off the rails to deliver her challenge but was in control entering the last 200 and won by nearly three lengths. Dare To Speak, second, Sly Stalloon, third and Lazer Light fourth held prominent positions throughout the gallop.
