Windward Road, Mountain View Avenue Intersection to be closed
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that the intersection of Windward Road and Mountain View Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic, this Sunday.
The closure will be for 10 hours, between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said the intersection will be closed to facilitate National Water Commission (NWC) pipe laying works.
He informed that the pipe laying works are being done as part of a collaborative road development project being undertaken along Windward Road that was implemented in February.
NWA said, resulting from the closure, traffic will be prohibited from passing through the intersection, along Windward Road.
Motorists will, also, not be able to make a left turn from Mountain View Avenue onto Windward Road or right turns from Windward Road onto Mountain View Avenue.
Motorists wishing to access Windward Road from Mountain View Avenue can turn left onto Cartridge Road then right onto Range Crescent, turn right onto Norman Terrace continuing onto Windward Road. The opposite would apply to persons travelling from Windward Road. Persons may also opt to use Ellis Avenue.
Shaw says that the project, which was implemented between Mountain View Avenue and Rockfort, will see the installation of water lines, the relocation of Jamaica Public Service (JPS) poles and the reconstruction of 1.25 kilometres of the roadway, to include improved drainage.
The road component of the project, which was implemented as part of the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP), is valued at $141 million dollars while the NWC component is being undertaken at a cost of $35 million.
The traffic signals at the intersection of Mountain View Avenue and Windward Road will also be improved, under the project.
NWA is advising affected persons to obey the instructions of flag persons and to exercise caution while travelling within the construction zone.
