Marquesas in with the ‘big boys’ for PM Stakes

St Leger winner and probably the best three-year-old in training at present, Marquesas is provisionally entered as one of eight possible starters in the 10-furlong (2,000 metres), Prime Minister’s Stakes scheduled for Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Caymanas Park.

The provisional entries and handicaps were released by the Racing Office at Caymanas Park on Saturday last.

This race, a regular fare over the Independence weekend was pushed down to the end of August and is still considered to be one of the major events on the racing calendar and a vital link to the Superstakes in November and the rich Diamond Mile in December.

Marquesas finally got it right in the St Leger and has earned his chance against the leading horses on the track.

Heading the handicaps is the tough and tenacious, Will In Charge who has a good record around two turns. Will In Charge is the defending champion, winning last year’s edition by a head in a never to be forgotten battle with Bigdaddykool.

Next in the weight order is Houdini’s Magic who has been having quite a good season thus far. He did well when recently defeating She’s A Maneater running over nine furlongs.

The ever present and resistant Perfect Neighbour, coming off a win in the bottom class (Open Allowance) has been allotted 50.0 kgs (110 lb) in this one.

The only filly in the race is the much-improved Marvellous Marva. She was handicapped with 48.0 kgs (105 lb) but with the official minimum weight set at 50.0 kgs (110 lb), that is the weight to be carried by Marvellous Marva.

Others entered are, new ‘boy’ on the block Uncle Frank who is currently finding his hoofs in the top grade; Superluminal, slowly getting back to his best and Dontae.
