DEFENDING champions Scotiabank defeated Jamaica National (JN) Group 55-40 as the 2018 Business House Netball Association (BHNA) Divisional Senior A League continued at the Leila Robinson Courts on Saturday.

It was Scotiabank’s second win from as many outings, as they were previously awarded points from Urban Development Corporation (UDC) who did not report for their match the week before.

The Winston Nevers-coached Scotiabank, through shooters Marsha Murphy-Dawkins and Tennisha Bernard, along with quick-attacking plays from Patricia McCalla, Kimberly Thomas and Trecia Stewart, gained a comfortable 20-6 lead at the first-quarter break. Scotiabank added a further 14 goals in the second quarter to hold a commanding 34-16 lead at the interval.

Nevers pulled a few players and brought in a few reserves in the third quarter and they continued to push their lead farther away from their opponents at 45-25. The defending champions eased off the gas pedal and their opponents, who were better in the final quarter through the shootings of Nadine Cushine-Vassell and Tajmarie Marsh, closed the gap to 40-55 by the end.

Scotiabank’s Murphy-Dawkins had 34 goals from 46 attempts, while Cushine-Vassell scored 23 goals from 28 attempts for JN Group.

In another Senior A League match, Appliance Traders Limited (ATL) A registered a convincing 49-22 win over the Sylvester “Chris” Campbell–coached Urban Development Corporation (UDC). It was the first win for the ATL A team which had lost their opening match to National Housing Trust.

ATL A used three goal shooters in the match — Shenova Edwards, who got 17 goals from 28 attempts; Conique Moore with 15 goals from 28 efforts; and Shian Gonzales with 13 goals from 18 attempts. UDC’s Shantel Edwards scored 18 goals from 22 attempts.
