Jehovah Witnesses weekend convention series continues this weekend

ROSE HALL, St James —Local Jehovah’s Witnesses will tomorrow begin the final in a series of three-day regional conventions, that began last weekend at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Rose Hall, St James. The conventions are being held under the theme ‘Be Courageous!’

Last weekend, an estimated 4,000 “Witnesses” from across the western region attended the first in the series of conventions, which were also held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

This weekend, August 24 – 26, two conventions will be held simultaneously, one in English and the other in American Sign Language, in a bid to facilitate the deaf.

The three-day programme consists of 54 presentations that will include talks, audio dramas, interviews, and short videos.

This will include a feature film, entitled The Story of Jonah — A Lesson in Courage and Mercy that will be shown on the final day of the convention.

Each day, the morning session will begin at 9:20 and will be introduced by music videos prepared specifically for the convention.

Other highlights include talks and interviews about practical ways to face present and future challenges with courage how animals can teach about courage and a public Bible discourse about why Jesus told a grieving father to “have no fear”.

On the final morning ‘Witnesses’ get a chance to listen to a Bible-based talk under the theme ‘The Resurrection Hope Imparts Courage-How?’ while a feature film on ‘Why Jonah feared his assignment and ran away’ will be shown in the afternoon.

“When you look at the news today, you can clearly see that people of all ages are dealing with more anxieties and fears than ever before. It takes courage to face these pressures. We welcome everyone to this year’s convention to benefit from the practical advice that’s contained in the Bible,” said David Semonian, a spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses at their world headquarters in Brooklyn, USA.
