The Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gold Cup is special — Carlton Watson
Head honcho at Cal’s Manufacturing Limited Carlton Watson believes that his company’s sponsorship of the historic Gold Cup is evidence that his organisation and himself are truly commitmented to the growth and development of horse racing.
“I am an owner of racehorses, I have won the owners’ championship before, my company has sponsored big races before, but now I genuinely feel a golden special breeze blowing as we prepare for the Gold Cup using our flagship product — Cal’s Tomato Ketchup — to sponsor this race,” Watson stated.
The Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gold Cup is on the calendar for competition on Saturday, October 13, 2018 over what many pundits consider to be the perfect trip of seven furlongs (1,400 metres). The Gold Cup carries a total purse of $3 million.
“In making the decision to sponsor this year’s Gold Cup, the first thing we considered was the purse, hence the decision to boost the amount from $1.75 million to $3 million. A race with the history of the Gold Cup, now the Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gold Cup, deserves a good purse in order to entice our best runners.
“Then we chose our ketchup as the title tag for the Gold Cup, that is, the Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gold Cup — Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gone Gold.
“On the day itself, we are going to pay particular attention to the punters at the track and in some of the off-track betting stations. There will be samplings of our many affordable products and other prizes to be won by spinning the wheel, and one lucky punter goes home with a 14-karat gold chain.
“And when you consider a possible clash between the two best horses currently in training, She’s A Maneater and Will In Charge, we are well set for a truly magnificent day come October 13 — the Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gold Cup race day,” an enthusiastic Watson said.
