Port Antonio stop Horace Clarke 3-0

Port Antonio, Portland — Port Antonio High continued their good form in Zone L of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition when they stopped an improved Horace Clarke 3-0 at Carder Park on Wednesday.

Robert Marks in the 20th, Andrew Layne in the 36th and Odane Buckley’s 57th-minute strike proved enough for Port Antonio High.

Port Antonio dominated the game although Horace Clarke had an improved performance after going down 0-8 in their first encounter at home.

Port Antonio attacked through Oshawny Jackson, Andrew Layne, Benjamin Byfield and Calroy Thomas, earning a number of corners as Horace Clarke through Christopher Lovelace and Atoin Thompson tried to hold them off. Horace Clarke countered through Abijah Swaby, Shemar Francis, Sanjay Brown and Najay Hardy, but found Akeeme Fowler and Tyreke Horne hard to penetrate.

Port Antonio took the lead when goalkeeper Tevin Tucker was beaten by a free kick from Marks.

And Layne made it 2-0 from close range to move his tally to seven goals. Layne was at the end of an Oshawny Jackson, Calroy Thomas combination as he beat two defenders just inside the goal area and carved out space to shoot home.

Port Antonio went further ahead when Adrian Green went down the right flank and crossed the ball to substitute Buckley to tuck away, with Tucker out of position.

In other games Titchfield came from behind to beat Happy Grove 3-1, and Annotto Bay with a brace from Cordell “Balla Kelly” Nelson secured a similar 3-1 victory over Fair Prospect.

Port Antonio lead Zone L with 16 points, six ahead of Titchfield High, followed by Fair Prospect on nine, Happy Grove with seven, and Horace Clarke with just one point.
