24-y-o man dies in police lockup
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Hunts Bay police are awaiting the outcome of a post-mortem to determine the cause of death of 24-year-old Adjay Williams of Olympic Gardens, Kingston 11.
According to reports from the constabulary’s Corporate communications unit (CCU), Williams, who was in custody at the Hunts Bay police lockup on a charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, was taken to hospital after being found unresponsive in his cell during routine checks about 8:00 am yesterday.
He was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors on duty, the police said.
CCU said the Inspectorate of the Constabulary, as well as the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), has been informed of the incident.
