Struggling Reno welcome high-flying UWI in Premier League
FROME, Westmoreland —Former champions FC Reno hope to snap their three-game losing start thus far in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) season when they host unbeaten The UWI FC at the Frome Sports Club on Sunday, starting at 3:30 pm.
The Westmoreland club are off to their worst ever start in the competition, losing all three games played, and are last place in the competition on goal-difference behind promoted Dunbeholden FC.
In their previous four seasons before returning to the RSPL, FC Reno, who have always been quick starters, had been able to acquire five to seven points after their first three games, and now they face a team off to a fast start themselves.
UWI are on seven points, the same as second-placed Mt Pleasant Football Academy, behind leaders Tivoli Gardens, who have won all three games played so far.
Meanwhile, Montego Bay United (MBU) are in eighth place on four points after holding the high-flying Mt Pleasant FA to a 1-1 draw in Montego Bay on Monday night as the St Ann based club dropped points for the first time this year.
On Sunday MBU will be on the road against struggling Harbour View who were battered 0-4 by Waterhouse on Sunday and are still winless on one point in 10th position.
FC Reno now hope their form against UWI FC from last season will carry over after they drew their first two games then beat the Kingston team 2-0 in the third round as they cruised to safety from relegation.
Prior to last year, UWI FC, who came into the RSPL in the 2015-16 season, had dominated the series in the first two years with five wins from their six meetings.
