‘The Master’ takes Royal Dad Trophy
Master Of Hall, the Fitzroy Glispie-conditioned bay gelding, easily brushed aside rivals to win the $1 million Royal Dad Trophy feature at Caymanas Park yesterday. He simply toyed with his five opponents in the Restricted Stakes event over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).
After being eased up in the final half-furlong (100m), Master Of Hall won by six lengths and recorded an impressive time 1:56.3. Splits were 28.2, 53.3, 1:17.4 and 1:42.3 for the mile (1,600m).
“I am pleased with the performance by Master Of Hall. He is a nice horse who continues to improve and I am looking forward to his development,” Glispie said.
Jockey Oneil Scott got a good break but held Master Of Hall among the backmarkers early in the race as Jacko Links (Dane Dawkins) set the pace with Storm (Christopher Mamdeen) going around the clubhouse turn.
Master Of Hall continued to track the leaders off the pace, and with little effort he made progress to go down fourth at the six-furlong (1,200m) marker.
Scott then let the notch go and in a flash Master Of Hall was on the heels of the leaders at the half mile (800m) before he took up the running at the top of the lane.
Once the field turned for home it all over as Master Of Hall powered home.
Anna Lisa (Omar Walker) came from far behind to get second place, half a length in front of Storm.
Apprentice Tevin Foster continued to enjoy a good start to his career when he landed a double. Foster won aboard Apollo Bay for trainer Anthony Nunes and Reasons for owner/trainer Howard Jaghai. It was Foster’s third career win.
