Flash flood watch extended for all parishes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological (Met) Service of Jamaica is reporting that the flash flood watch has been extended for low-lying and flood prone areas of all parishes, and is effective until 5:00 pm today.
Meanwhile, a broad area of low pressure across the western Caribbean continues to produce unstable weather conditions across the island and surrounding waters.
Forecasters say satellite observations and rainfall reports indicate that light to moderate showers and isolated thunderstorms affected sections of mainly eastern parishes last night.
The forecast is for this area of low pressure to continue drifting northwestward over the next few days. Mostly cloudy conditions, with periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times along with occasional gusty winds are to affect the island through to Saturday.
The Met Service is advising fishers and other marine interests to exercise caution, especially over southern waters, due to rough seas and gusty winds in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms.
A flash flood watch means that flash flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a warning is issued.
