Alorica readies for 2,000 new BPO jobs in Jamaica
Alorica will create 2,000 new business process outsourcing (BPO) jobs in Jamaica as it expands its operations in the island.
In a release the company announced that it will be creating more than 3,000 new jobs in total as part of a “strategic expansion” in the Latin American and Caribbean region, with the addition of three major sites to include Guatemala City, Guatemala; Kingston, Jamaica; and Puebla, Mexico.
Of the number of new positions being added, Jamaica will see an increase of 2,000 jobs — or 67 per cent; Guatemala, 900; and Mexico, 600. The company also operates in Honduras, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
“We’re experiencing tremendous growth in Latin America and the Caribbean, thanks to the increasing demand for work by both US-based and local clients looking for cost-effective and exceptional customer care,” Miro Batista, president of Latin America & the Caribbean at Alorica, is quoted as saying.
“With the success of our two existing sites in Jamaica — Kingston and Portmore — we’ve added another location in Kingston, making us the third-largest business process outsourcing company on the island. Boasting the largest footprint out of the three operations, this site plans to create 2,000 jobs between the end of 2018 and early 2019. As a result, Alorica will employ approximately 5,000 local employees on the island, servicing clients in the media and entertainment, hospitality and high-tech industries,” the company stated in the release.
In an e-mailed response to the Jamaica Observer, Communications Manager Erica McCarthy indicated that clients within the retail and travel industries will be also be serviced through the new Jamaica location, at the newly constructed Stanley Motta-owned 58 HWT tech park.
She also disclosed that the company is currently engaged in recruitment, which should end by early 2019, and that Alorica has worked with several organisations, including the HEART Trus NTA, to recruit agents and other staff.
“We are hiring for various levels and positions – agents (tech support, customer service, sales), team managers (supervisors), compliance auditors, quality analysts, operation managers, trainers, quality supervisor and training supervisor,” McCarthy told the Caribbean Business Report.
Alorica also expressed its gratitude to the Government of Jamaica and other stakeholders, such as Jampro and the Special Economic Zone Authority, for supporting the expansion of its operation in the country as it endeavours to provide impeccable customer service.
“Jampro is always more than helpful in accommodating VIP airport attendance for our visitors, helping our expat crew getting our work permits, inviting us to be part of important events that have nationwide reach,” McCarthy explained.
“The SEZ and Mrs Gloria Henry (president of the Business Process Industry Association of Jamaica) and her team reach out to us at least once a month to make sure if we need any help and are always very accommodating of our requests.”
